Google

To wrap up a jam-packed week, I had lunch today at Google. They call it 'The Googleplex'. You know I am a Silicon Valley baby, so it was only appropriate to go have lunch at the 'darling' company of 'the valley'. It was an amazing experience, there was a band playing, a huge outdoor BBQ - and when I say BBQ, I don't mean some steaks and sausages on the grill - we are talking exquisite gormet offerings. Everyone was in a party mood, but I get the feeling that is kind of normal at this place, and why not. Probably half of them are multi-millionaires ;)

But if a BBQ was not your thing, there were many other choices. There's a huge food court in one building, and then other cafe's scattered here and there. Each staffed by gourmet chefs and boasting mouth-watering menus. Of course, I was happy just with the Cheerios I broght along with me. This may look like a normal office caffeteria, but the food is anything but normal.

As you walk in, you pass the volleyball court, where Google workers get some exercise. At some point I guess they go back inside and do some work :)

And since there are so many different buildings, there are electric scooters laying around that are provided (free) for the workers to zoom around on. Late for the volleyball game? grab a scooter and off you go! Some people prefer to drive their electric cars.

We spent about an hour relaxing listening to the music, walking around, and talking to some of the puppies. Yes, you take your dog to work with you at Google....right to your office or cubicle. So there were lots of dogs around.

They must love babies at Google, and pregnant mothers get special privelges, like reserved parking at the front door.

Here's a photo of the overall scene in the main courtyard. Click to enlarge.
