Sitting Up!

I reached a milestone this week. I can now sit up on my own. Yes, it's very exciting, because I don't have to be lying down all the time, or sitting in a chair. I can actually sit up on my own and play on the floor.

In this photo I have a cushion around me - just as a backup, because occasionally I do get a bit excited and topple over.

Now, I've seen other babies crawling...if I can just figure that one out that would be teriffic, I would be mobile at last.

My friend Julia

I went for a walk the other day with my good friend Julia. Unfortunately you can't see her cute pink cowboy boots in this photo.

weekend update

On Saturday I got together with some of my California cousins who I couldn't see at Christmas. We had a big family dinner together. All the girls surrounded me and wanted to show me their baby dolls. At times it was a little overwhelming, but I took it all in my stride. From left to right this is Samantha, Claire, Emily and Julia.

On Sunday the weather cleared, so we went for a hike. It was my first time riding in a backpack.

Alex is a real pro, he went right to sleep in his backpack, no problem.

All this activity made me very hungry. I learned that if I open my mouth really wide, it makes the eating process much more efficient.

How well do you know baby Riley?

One of these photos is me, and one is somebody else. Can you guess which one I am? Bonus points if you can guess who the other baby is.

Make a guess,

then, scroll down to reveal the answer

If you guessed that I am the lower one, you are absolutely right.

So who then is the other cute baby? That's my dad when he was my age (6 months).

Also pictured you can see my mother, and grandmother too. You can click the photo to enlarge it a bit.

Veggies, yum yum.

WOW is all I can say, my world just expanded beyond words. For the past 6 months I've had a pretty meager selection on my menu, but FINALLY I get to taste some REAL FOOD!

Today I tasted my first vegetable - its called butternut squash (or butternut pumpkin, for all you Aussies reading this). I never knew food could taste so great. I thought all foods tasted like wallpaper glue, but I could not have been more wrong. There must be a huge range of tastes and textures that I never knew existed.... I think I just touched on the tip of the iceberg.

My parents also finally got a kid-size spoon for me, but as you can see I still tend to get covered in food, but I'm loving it and I doubt I will ever go back to rice cereal.... but I will keep it in mind if I'm ever wallpapering a room.

Book

I've been reading a lot lately. This is my favorite book.
